Reimagining doughnut economics for the Global South
Rather than adopting the doughnut 'as is', the Global South must reinterpret it as a two-step process: just growth followed by the stabilization phase.

Muhammad Osama Khan is the current Vice-Curator of the Global Shapers Peshawar. He is a Future50 Leader with expertise in building the circular economy and climate resilience through grassroots mobilisation.
As the founder of "Echoes of Earth", he is driving climate awareness through music, digital storytelling and reviving traditional spaces, with over 25,000 organic views and 1,000+ direct engagements across platforms. Through this project, he launched Pakistan's first-ever "Climate Jirga", bringing together 50 diverse stakeholders for a climate dialogue, reviving a traditional space in which AI was integrated to inform climate policy.
As Co-founder of his current startup, UpflexSolutions (a project under the Global Plastic Action Partnership-GPAP), he has upcycled up to 160 kg of plastic waste banners into tote bags and gift bags. The project also empowers female artisans and promotes local heritage through artwork. Moreover, working as a Community Engagement Officer in the Waste4Value project, creating climate awareness by reaching to 5000 people from 10 slum areas, while equipping 100 informal waste workers to build a tech-enabled PET bottle recycling system. The vision for a climate-resilient future and empowering local voices is reflected in his work as a co-author of “Doughnut Economics for the Global South.”
