As Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer for Emerging Markets at UBS, based in New York, Alejo leads investment strategy and research across developing markets, guiding asset allocation decisions that influence billions of dollars in client portfolios. He also serves on several UBS management forums, helping shape the firm’s broader strategic direction.
In addition to his role at UBS, Alejo contributes actively to academic and policy discourse. He is a professor at Columbia University, where he teaches a graduate-level course on international capital markets.
He has been named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and is engaged with the Atlantic Council as both a member of the Advisory Board of its Latin America Program and a Millennium Leadership Fellow.

Alejo holds a PhD in economics from Columbia University and earned degrees in economics and finance from Tilburg University and Universidad del CEMA.
